Simon Coburn

Senior Project Engineer, AMSL Aero Pty Ltd

Simon Coburn is an Australian mechanical engineer with a career in product development and manufacturing. He completed his third master’s degree in energy systems at the University of Melbourne which included an internship with Pacific Hydro on a feasibility study into ammonia production. He then joined Hyzon Motors to lead the design, build and delivery of ten hydrogen powered coaches for Fortescue Future Industries. His team subsequently developed a hydrogen powered garbage truck for Australia and a liquid hydrogen powered prime mover for the USA. Since 2023, he has been the hydrogen systems engineer at AMSL Aero where he is leading the design of a liquid hydrogen powertrain for a zero emissions aircraft to replace the many small aircraft that currently operate in remote and regional Australia. Energy has been an endless fascination since he completed his original engineering thesis on the World Solar Challenge (solar vehicle race from Darwin to Adelaide).
